Basic Operation Of A Ratchet

This video covers the basic operation of a Load Hugger ratchet

This short video covers the basic procedures for operating common web tie-down ratchets.

Feeding the web into the mandrel: Prepare the ratchet to receive the web. Cycle the ratchet to rotate the center mandrel bar, until it is oriented in a good position to receive the webbing. Feed the webbing through the center of the mandrel. Consider that when you are done feeding the web, you will need to have an adequate amount of webbing fed through the center mandrel, and enough slack remaining in the web that is being tensioned to result in at least two revolutions of webbing, when the webbing is fully tensioned.

Now operate the ratchet handle up and down until the webbing that you are tightening has the desired amount of tension.

In preparation for transit, make sure the handle has been placed down into the locked position.

When a ratchet tie-down assembly is done being used, you will want to release the tension in the webbing, and unwind and remove the webbing from the ratchet.

To do this, you will first need to release the load retaining plate from the gear mechanism. This is done by squeezing the pull plate with the handle, and while holding this tension on the pull plate, rotate the handle a full 180 degrees.

This will cause the cam mechanism on the side handle plates to force the load plate away from the gears.

You will now be able to rlease the webbing fully, by manually pulling on it, until the webbing is unwrapped from the mandrel and the web is pulled entirely from the ratchet.

By following these simple steps, with some practice, even a new tie-down user will soon become comfortable with using Lift-All® Load Hugger ratchet straps.

Please follow all instructions in the safety bulletin included with each product.
